The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test

The OSSLT is a provincial test of literacy (reading and writing) skills that students have acquired by Grade 10.
It is based on the literacy skills expected in The Ontario Curriculum across all subject areas up to the end of Grade 9.
Students will be asked to complete a series of reading and writing tasks.
This was the outline for the OSSLT in 2007-2008.

Read a variety of texts (informational, narrative & graphical)

Answer multiple choice questions relating to what you have read

Answer short-response questions (6 lines) relating to what you have read

1 News Report based on a given Headline and Picture (1 page)

1 Series of Paragraphs Expressing an Opinion (2 pages)

6 short writing tasks

Multiple choice questions relating to writing conventions (spelling, grammar, org of ideas)
